TellTheBell.com – Win a free iPad 2 from Taco Bell?

The last time I visited Taco Bell I was given a flyer to take their survey and win an iPad 2.

There are 2 things that jumped out at me:

  1. tellthebell.com is a great domain name. It's short (relatively) and to the point, it rhymes(!), and it's super easy to remember. They could have gone with "telltacobell" which still has all the characteristics I just listed, but "tellthebell" has a better rhythm to it – it's obvious that someone on Taco Bell's advertising team can actually think outside the box (or bun, in this case). (much better than walgreen's tellwag.com)
  2. an iPad 2? Didn't Apple just release the New iPad? The prize, while still cool, seems a bit dated. Is the second place prize a 1990 Honda Accord?

Some good comics this week

There are a few web comics that were published this week that I thought were really great – I'm not going to steal the images, hotlink to them, or bother to create thumbnails. I'm just going to put links to them. Starting… now!

  1. Networking (xkcd) – This totally makes me want to become a business professional!
  2. Not Winter (left-handed toons) – This guy shares my superpower!
  3. Craps (left-handed toons) – This was me in Vegas. I spent a lot of time around the craps table trying to make sure I understood how to play. I never did get up the confidence to jump in and throw some dice though.

Poor Plastic Bag

This morning, while I was walking from my car into work, I heard a rustling noise.
It was a plastic bag stuck on the branches of a bush.
My first thought was that it was trapped, and I should help it get free… then the other half of my brain kicked in and reminded me that plastic bags aren't alive.

Still, I hope he made it wherever he was trying to go.

Foofaraw

On Saturday I received an email from Dreamhost (my webhost) that they had detected an intrusion on one of their servers on Thursday night.
Passwords may have been compromised.
As a result, ALL users had their passwords reset and were forced to create new ones. I had nine users myself, so trying to come up with new passwords took a bit of time.

Sunday I received an email from one of my WordPress instances that there were new users being registered… something that shouldn't have been happening. Luckily they were unable to do anything more than that, but I spent a good chunk of the day locking things down. I changed all my database passwords (just for good measure), deleted unused users, deleted unused WordPress blogs (there were like 15 of them set up for my ebay project that has been dead for about a year now), and did a bit of extra tidying – just because.

End result: nothing was negatively affected, although I did have a few moments that one might refer to as "panic attacks".

On a much more pleasant note, I start a 13 week Tai Chi class on Thursday. 3 days! WOOOOOH!

New Years Eve fireworks in Dubai [YouTube]

… yes!!

Below, for your viewing pleasure, is a video of fireworks being shot off of the tallest building in the world. I don't think there's much more that can be said about this.

If you click through to youtube, there are a TON more of these listed in the related videos.
