New Website – Book/Movie/Music/Video Game Recommendation THINGY

It was a VAST undertaking, requiring a few HOURS of programming, and TENS of minutes of image editing… but NinjaPicks.com is almost live.

There's a bunch more tweaking, and design/layout work to do – but I envision that all being finished tomorrow… which means it'll probably be finished by Friday.

What is "Ninja Picks"? Ninja Picks is a website (that we'll pretend is) powered by a REAL LIVEstuffed teddy bear in a ninja costume. After you provide The Ninja with the title of a book, movie, game, or name of a song or bad, this incredibly powerful ninja will battle the evils of the web (mostly pirates) and return with a list of things that you might like!

Dear Flash/Thumb Drive Designers

The Lexar JumpDrive Firefly is the best designed flash drive I've come across yet.
Below is an amazon link, you can click through to see a larger picture of the drive –

So, what makes this guy so great? First, its small and convenient size – about half the length of some flash drives. And second, the location of the key-ring clip makes sense!

More times than I'd like to think about, I've seen an entire set of keys hanging from a computer because someone has their flash drive on their key-chain. Every other flash drive I've seen puts the key-ring hole on the drive itself, even if the drive has a cap. If you look at the picture of the Lexar drive, you'll notice the hole on the left side, in the clear plastic cover. This allows someone to keep their drive on them at all times, and when they want to use it, they just pull it out of the cap and just plug it in. The cap stays attached to the key-chain, rather than the drive!

Why is this brilliance so uncommon? Especially when the alternative just seems so stupid?

Pet Peeve: "Remember Me" Forms

Many online services have a little "Remember Me" or "Remember My Login" checkbox under their login forms. It's nice and convenient for frequent users that are on private computers.

For some reason though, many "new" sites seem to default to having this box already checked, and I always wonder what sort of brain dead person decided that was a good idea.

I forget the last site I saw this on, but it was within the last month. I had to explain the LOGIC FAIL behind pre-checking this box before, so there may be some people that don't see why this is an issue. I'll lay it out real quick – if a user wants to stay logged in to a service they can just click that box once. If a user doesn't want to stay logged in (shared computer, paranoid, many reasons why) they have to uncheck this box EVERY time they come to the site – and if they forget to log out when they're done, the next person on the computer is going to be logged in as them!

So, tell your web-app developery friends: "Remember Me" should NEVER be the default!

Thesaurus

Thesaurus – quite possibly the lamest dinosaur ever. You can almost imagine a pack of Thesauruses hunting smaller dinosaurs, one says to the other
"This is good food", another says
"Yes, this is a good meal", and then another jumps in (WAAAY too excited) with
"Yes, I am enjoying this blue plate, board, breakfast, brunch, carryout, chow time, chow, collation, cookout, dessert, din-din, dinner, eats, fare, feast, feed, grub, lunch, luncheon, mess, munchies, picnic, potluck, refection, refreshment, regalement, repast, snack, special, spread, square meal, supper, table, tea, together banquet!"

Jeez Thesaurus!

I suddenly have issues looking up similar words using a book whose name could be literally translated to "The Lizard".

Phantom Hangover

For the last couple of weeks I've been waking up feeling completely trashed.

I don't know what it is, but I'm getting really tired of waking up feeling like I have a massive hangover – all the negatives of a night out, but none of the benefits? Psh. Lame.

Cream Cheese

Are there any foods that can't be made better by adding cream cheese?

Here are a few random foods that just came to mind, all of which would be better by adding some cream cheese:

  • Tacos
  • Spaghetti
  • Peanut Butter Sandwich
  • Turkey Sandwich
  • Any soup
  • Pizza
  • Cheeseburgers
  • Everything else I can thing of!

I think I've just discovered the ultimate secret ingredient!
