The Sun Is Napping

How Low Can It Go? Sun Plunges Into The Quietest Solar Minimum In A Century

"This is the quietest sun we've seen in almost a century," agrees forecaster David Hathaway of NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Center in Huntsville, Ala.

I guess we can't expect the sun to continually produce sunspots, even it needs a break every once in awhile. But is that what's going on? Is it sleepy? Sick? Playing an inter-galactic game of hide and seek?

Perhaps we'll never know…

Do Your Nuts Have Salmonella?

First peanut butter.. now pistachios?!

These are supposed to be healthy things, not killers in disguise. I wonder what would happen if companies stopped focusing purely on short term profits and aimed towards longevity, quality, and honesty. Crazy idea, huh?

Also, don't combine Salmon and Nutella in a recipe and then call it Salmonella.

All-In-One Card Stamp

What a brilliant idea! I totally need one of these "One Card for All Occasions Stamps", maybe even 3!

Purple Cauliflower

In a previous post (Colorless Veggies) I complained about cauliflower's lack of color… but guess what Amazon just listed in my recommended products list?!

Purple Cauliflower Seeds!

Also in the list were Hmong Red Cucumber Seeds, and Purple Dragon Carrot Seeds.

Click the links (or hover over them) to see the pictures. All three of these are pretty neat.

I Need More Plants

I've decided that Snake Plants (Mother-in-law's Tongue) are the ultimate home/office plants. They require little light, watering every couple of weeks, and are very difficult to kill.

Home Depot has little Snake Plants for $5 each, which seems like a really good deal, so I grabbed 2 of them – one for my bedroom and one for my office. But now I think I need more. 🙂

I'd like to put a few more around the apartment, and a few more around work. If you'd like to donate to my "Snake Plant spreading" cause, just click on the PayPal Donate button over to the right (at the top of the sidebar) and put something about "Plants" or "Snake Plants" in the purpose/notes field.

I'm going to have to call the local greenhouses and see if they have a better deal, but I think they're going to have a hard time competing with $5.

Since Snake Plants can be propagated by splitting the plant apart, I think it might be neat to get some extra pots and turn some of the purchased plants into 2-3 new plants.

Twitter Synchronization – FAIL

Ugh. So my idea to synchronize my TweetDeck settings between 2 computers didn't work so well. It seemed too simple a solution, so I should have known better.

I guess the planning of my SUPER AWESOME twitter client will continue. If you're a big twitterer and use some sort of twitter client (Twhirl, TweetDeck, etc) to manage things, are there any features that you feel are lacking? Now is the time to tell me. 🙂

Twitter Addiction

I'm going to partially put the blame on spudart for this one, but I seem to have become addicted to twitter. I don't get it though.. I guess it just gives me another outlet to rant about nothing, which is always useful I guess. Plus, people that I don't know seem to jump in and magically answer questions that I have, which is something I don't get to much of from this blog.

I've been using TweetDeck to manage my twitter experience. The only downside has been that tweets that I mark as read from home are still listed as new when I check from work (and vice versa) which just requires a quick scroll to remember where I was in the list of received tweets. I was even (and still am) considering writing my own twitter client with a centralized database to keep track of settings like that.

In the meantime, as of about 10 minutes ago, I've come up with a solution involving DropBox, which is a free folder syncing/online storage solution. Basically, I've put my TweetDeck folder in my synchronized DropBox folder, so one set of settings is now shared by any computer I'm on – no rereading tweets!

….

So.. if you can't get enough of me from this blog, feel free to follow me on twitter.
