It's Not Mertle – It's The Solar Turtle

This is not Mertle, nor is this a Jetpack Turtle.. but it was disturbing enough that I had to share.

A turtle equipped with a solar panel:

One of these days I might bust out some pencils and draw up an actual Jetpack Turtle. You've been warned. 😉

why in the name of sanity does a turtle need a solar panel strapped to it's back? will the solar panel make the turtle move faster due to the energy boost from the sun? i'm amused, but confused 😛

i'd much rather see a turtle with a jet pack attached to it. now that would be f-ing awesome!

I don't get it. Did you do some crazy photo computer genius work on that picture or is there actually something taped to that poor turtle's back?

There's a solar panel taped to his back.. or I hope that's just tape. I dunno. I was looking for pictures of turtles with jetpacks and this one came up. No story on the page, nothing.

    It kinda really bothers me.

Can you imagine how traumaitized he/she was when this red tape contraption was taped on his/her back???? We need to find that turtle….name it Mertle…and run away with it. It looks sad.

I wonder if it's some kind of solar powered tracking thing. Like the kind of tag they would use on endangered species to monitor them.

I still wouldn't want it on me. Even if I had a shell and couldn't feel it there.

    Let's rescue her. K?

You're just saying it's a nice little monitor thing….on a shell it can't feel….just so I'll settle down. I see your tricks, mister.

I was trying to figure out what it could be. That's the only thing I can come up with. Anything else just seems really stupid and unnecessary.

And she wouldn't be able to feel it through the shell, but she might notice the extra weight. If it is a tracking system, it seems like they could have done a much better job with it.

No tricks. I don't like it and neither should you. so.there.

I guess Mertle just sounds more like a girl turtle name to me. I didn't really think of it as being a "he."

Hey.. maybe some boy turtle gave it to her as some kind of jewelry? Shell-bling? Maybe one of these days I'll get you a shiny solar panel. 😉

..nah. I'll stick with the ring. lyg

hehe I forgot her name was mertle. Yes, she is a chick.

    eeeeeeeee. a ring, eh?

A really shiny one. I had one picked out when I bought my ring before.. figured you wouldn't like it because I have no taste/style. Was it ever shiny though – wow!

Red tape. That is fine. I would feel bad if there were screws coming out of his back. OUCH.

  13. sparx said,

I wouldn't say red tape was "fine." It's definitely better than screws, but how would you feel about having a solar panel taped to your back?

    May 29, 2008 @ 3:47 pm

  14. spudart said,

I'd love it if someone used red tape to attach a solar panel to my back. I'd walk around all day saying that I'm solar powered. I bet that is what the turtle is doing in the photo. He's strutting around showing off his solar-poweredness.

No. What Mertle is doing is walking around all day crying and hoping that Sparx and I will find her soon and take the ucky red tape off and bring her home.
