IDEA: Neighborhood Flash Freezer

We all know that putting food in the freezer will make it last longer.. and destroy the flavor and texture in the process. Wouldn't it be nice if there was a way to minimize the damage? Obviously there is, since the frozen food industry couldn't survive without it. The process of flash freezing uses cryogenic temperatures to freeze food almost instantly. The quick freezing prevents cellular damage to the food, keeping it preserved much better than a home freezer.

I think it'd be neat to see someone try to commercialize this as a service to normal consumers. Someone could bring their food to a rather small local facility where, for a reasonable fee, it would be flash frozen and ready to go in a matter of minutes.

This would probably only appeal at first to those that freeze large amounts of food, but it's possible that it could catch on. Maybe. I know that I'd like to have a bunch of frozen, ready-to-go meals in my freezer that didn't taste horrible and didn't have 500% of my daily requirement of salt.
